Route summary

About this route

A convoy run is the simplest way to drive real off-road terrain in Bosnia without doing the navigation, the permissions or the risk assessment yourself.

You drive your own vehicle in a small convoy behind a guide who knows the route, sets the pace and calls the line through the harder sections over the radio. A second vehicle carries recovery equipment and closes the group, so nobody is ever left alone on a track.

Routes are matched to the least capable vehicle and the least experienced driver in the group, so tell us honestly what you are bringing and how much seat time you have.

Who it suits

Is this tour right for you?

Best for

Owners of a capable 4x4 who want to use it properly, with a guide ahead and recovery behind. Groups of friends travelling in their own vehicles who want one planned day off the asphalt.

Not ideal for

Anyone without a suitable vehicle - book a passenger expedition instead and ride with a guide. Drivers looking for an extreme rock-crawling day; this is a touring convoy, not a competition course.

Guide advice

Air down at the briefing, not halfway up the first climb - it makes more difference than any modification. Bring more water and fuel than the day needs. There is nothing to buy once the convoy leaves the main road.

Route sequence

The route, day by day

03 stages

  1. 01

    Convoy briefing and vehicle check

We meet at the agreed point, walk around every vehicle together - tyres, recovery points, fluids - and run through convoy discipline: spacing, radio channel, hand signals and what to do if you get stuck.

  2. 02

Forest roads and the first technical section

The convoy moves onto unsealed forest road, building up to the first technical section. The guide walks the harder lines on foot first and talks each driver through over the radio.

  3. 03

Ridge track, lunch stop and the run back

A longer climb onto open ridge with a stop for food and a look at the map, then the return leg on a different track so the day is a loop rather than an out-and-back.

Trip essentials

What is included

  • Lead guide vehicle and a sweep vehicle carrying recovery equipment.
  • Loan radio for your vehicle, so you hear every call from the front.
  • Route planning, land access and a briefing before departure.
  • Recovery assistance if you get stuck on the route.

Not included

  • Your own vehicle, its fuel, tyres and any damage sustained on the route.
  • Vehicle insurance - check your policy covers off-road use before booking.
  • Food and drinks, unless agreed in advance.

Vehicle and guest requirements

  • A genuine 4x4 with low range or a capable all-wheel-drive with decent ground clearance. Soft-roaders on road tyres are not suitable for the technical sections.
  • All-terrain tyres in good condition, a working spare, and rated recovery points front and rear. Bring your own recovery strap and shackles if you have them.
  • Tell us the make, model, tyres and any modifications when you enquire. We will say honestly whether the route suits your vehicle, and suggest an easier one if it does not.
Practical detail

Before you go

Meeting guidance

The exact meeting point and departure time are confirmed after your enquiry, since they depend on which route the conditions allow that week. Arrive fuelled, with a full tank.

Bringing your own vehicle

You need a valid driving licence and to be comfortable driving unsealed roads. Previous off-road experience helps but is not required - the guide adjusts the route to the group.

Convoy rules are simple: keep the vehicle behind you in your mirror, never pass the lead, and stop if the vehicle behind disappears. Everything else is called over the radio.

The guide may turn the convoy around if conditions, a vehicle problem or a driver being out of their depth makes continuing unsafe. That call is final.

Trail notes

Heavy rain turns several of these tracks into something that needs recovery gear rather than driving skill. When that happens we move to a firmer route or reschedule.
